Our Devon Senior Cup campaign came to an end as Barnstaple advanced to the final courtesy of a 50-19 win. We started brightly but when their fullback capitalized on a loose ball to run the length it set the tone for a difficult twenty minutes that saw us chasing the game. An Austin Crow try cut the gap but they added a further two tries and we traillied 31-5 at the break. The second half was much improved and we wrestled our way back into proceedings courtesy of scores from Batty and a lovely sixty metre try from Hammond. However we still needed points and as we entered into the final ten we chased the game. The hosts who had remained scoreless in the second period up to this point capitalised on our increasingly cavalier attitude to score three tries in the final five minutes to add gloss to the scoreline. A deserved win for Barnstaple in the end that sees us suffer a first defeat of the season. We wish them all the best in the final against either Brixham or Sidmouth. And you never know we might back in North Devon next season.
